Idle Garden is a modern Indie-Rock/Brit-Rock band based in Calgary, Canada. Fronted by Scotland-born Darren McDade, the band cultivates a unique sonic landscape, blending larger-than-life soulful vocals, driving rhythms, and expansive keyboards and guitars. The band unites musicians from diverse backgrounds across Canada and Europe (Scotland, Romania, Ukraine), each with a wealth of experience from prior musical ventures. The latest single "Black Revolver" is an up-tempo indie rock track who's music will energize you while the lyrics simultaneously cover the existential question of "Why am I here?". "Black Revolver" is the first in a series of singles leading up to an EP release in 2025, following their debut self-titled EP released in 2023. Idle Garden's live show seamlessly weaves together moments that are both delicate and heavy.
Released on August 11, 2023, Idle Garden's debut self-titled album was recorded at Studio Bell in Calgary, AB, Canada. The band captured all of the tracks as a full band with electric live takes through historic gear and consoles with minimal overdubbing.
Recorded through Studio Bell's renowned Trident A-Range console (used by David Bowie, Elton John, Queen), you can hear vintage and sought-after gear like a 1957 Hammond B3 through Neil Young's 1958 Fender Pro Amp, a 1977 Mellotron T550, and powerful vocals captured on a rare 1960s Neumann U67! Mixed and mastered on a 1970's Neve console by Ian Dillon.
